Managing Humidity and ‘Sweating’ Air Conditioners

When the humidity is high, you can thank yourself for purchasing an air conditioner to keep you nice and comfortable!

The blistering heat is one thing, however the humidity is a totally different beast. It is important that you use your air conditioner correctly during these very humid times to reduce the occurrence of condensation marks (“sweating”).

High humidity causes high condensation within your air conditioner, whether that be a ducted system or a wall mounted split system.

As much as we love a bit of fresh air, we highly recommend that when you are running your air conditioner, you must ensure that all windows and doors are fully closed. If the system has the opportunity to draw in any humidity from outside it will cause your system to condensate heavily and may cause water damage to your house.

Checklist to Avoid Air Conditioner Sweating

Recommended settings:

  • Temperature set to no lower than 24 degrees

  • High Fan speed

  • Dry mode (When extra high humidity)

  • Having a minimum of 2-3 zones ON & OPEN (ducted systems)

  • Fully close all windows and doors (this is best practice in any month)

Further Recommendations for best use of your air conditioner:

  • Clean the filters regularly- every 2/3 months and even more in the summer period.

  • Book in a professional clean and service YEARLY to ensure the coils aren’t blocked or dirty, which will cause restricted air flow.

  • Ventilate your roof (ducted systems). The cooler your roof space the lower the dew point in your roof = less condensation.
